ASB Celebrates Sant Jordi with a Joyful Day of Books, Roses, and Tradition

On April 23, our entire school came together to celebrate Sant Jordi, one of Catalonia’s most cherished traditions, and a day that beautifully blends the love of literature, the symbolism of roses, and the strength of community.

At ASB, celebrating Sant Jordi has been a beloved tradition since our founding in 1962, reflecting our deep appreciation for local culture and our commitment to fostering a strong sense of community across generations of learners.

From our youngest students in ECC to our High School learners, everyone took part in honoring the spirit of the day through a range of creative and meaningful activities. Elementary through high school held student-led assemblies, showcasing talents and traditions with pride and enthusiasm.

A special highlight this year was an original Catalan play written and performed by our Grade 11 Catalan students, offering an original take on the story of Sant Jordi. Students also participated in trivia contests and enjoyed traditional sardana dancing. The 1st and 2nd grade performers stole the show with their “ball de bastons”.

The library was a hub of excitement with our annual second-hand book sale, where students, staff, and families browsed and bought pre-loved books. In total, the library sold over 1,700 books, raising €3,495! The proceeds from the sale will go toward expanding the library’s collection, helping us share even more stories with our community.  Additionally, a portion of this money will be donated to one of ASB’s service projects.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated librarians and Catalan and Spanish teachers, whose hard work and passion brought this festive day to life.

Celebrations like Sant Jordi remind us of the power of storytelling, the importance of cultural heritage, and the joy of coming together as a learning community.
