December 12 is International Iberian Lynx Day, a time to celebrate the remarkable recovery of lynx populations here in Spain, which faced near extinction due to habitat destruction, hunting, and a decline in their primary prey, the European rabbit.
Thanks to dedicated conservation efforts over the past two decades, including habitat restoration and breeding programs, the Iberian lynx population has rebounded from just 62 individuals in 2002 to over 2,000 today.
We take pride in our school mascot, the Iberian lynx, which symbolizes resilience and the importance of protecting our natural world.
