For over a decade, RefugArt has been more than just an event—it has been a movement, a platform for empathy, and a celebration of the power of art to create change. This year, ASB once again came together in an extraordinary display of creativity, compassion, and community to support refugee education.
We would like to congratulate everyone involved in this incredible school-wide event that raises awareness about the refugee cause and funds educational programs in refugee camps.
Over the past months, the student executive committee worked tirelessly alongside teacher advisors to bring this event to life. Students from PK3 to 12th grade engaged in meaningful lessons, deepening their connection to the refugee cause.
On Friday, the color orange filled the campus, symbolizing unity and awareness. It was truly inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and respect of the students as they explored and purchased items from the various stands. RefugArt unites the entire ASB community, serving as a powerful example of caring and belonging.
During two special assemblies, Alyssa Skites, student founder of RefugArt from the Class of 2017, inspired future generations with her story. We also welcomed Javad, an Afghan refugee and hip-hop dancer, who performed alongside our 6th graders in an incredible hip-hop act.
A special highlight was The Journey of No Choice station, led by the Art Department and middle school students. This immersive experience simulated the journey of a refugee family, combining storytelling, art, and music—leaving a lasting impact on all who participated.
The evening event drew a record-breaking crowd, featuring incredible performances and artwork. We also premiered “10 Years of RefugArt,” a documentary created by 11th grader Ivo, celebrating a decade of impact.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the executive committee, teachers, staff, and our generous sponsors, who donated food, drinks, and amazing prizes—including signed Messi t-shirts—to support this event.
Thank you to everyone who made RefugArt 2025 a success!
