This August marked ASB’s seventh Peru Medical Mission, where 10 student volunteers, two chaperones, Ms. Marta Vernet and Mr. Daniel Whitehair, and alumna Ms. Marta Casellas (‘85), partnered with doctors from Michigan State University to bring essential healthcare to communities in the Peruvian Amazon.

Acting as translators, our bilingual students played a vital role in connecting patients and doctors, helping to care for more than 2,000 patients in just over a week.

The mission included five days at a health clinic in Iquitos and four days aboard a boat transformed into an itinerant clinic, reaching remote villages along the Amazon.

Beyond their service, students also had the chance to take a memorable trip to Machu Picchu, deepening their connection to Peru’s rich history and culture. For our students, this was a powerful journey of service, learning, and human connection.
