Over the March 1 weekend, six middle school mathletes traveled to Vienna, Austria, to compete in the 2025 ISMTF Middle School math competition.

Both teams placed in the top 20–with the team comprised of 8th graders Kieran F. and Mars H. and sixth grader Zita L. placing 10th overall (out of 50 teams). The other ASB team–8th graders Unai B. and Abril R. and 7th grader George W.–placed 18th overall.

In addition, 6th grader Zita L. was on the winning Sunday Chase team, which was made up of nine students from nine different international schools.

While in Vienna, these young mathematicians also got a chance to have several cultural visits: a walking tour to visit city landmarks; a visit to the Haus der Musik (museum of music); and an afternoon at the Prater amusement park, which lies within the city limits and has a history dating back to the 18th century. Students also had the chance to sample the local Austrian cuisine, including wiener schnitzel (fried veal/pork/chicken cutlet) and Austrian style pancake dishes.

Congratulations to all participants and thank you to Mr. Gnagni and Ms. Cates, the chaperones, for giving our students this opportunity.
