A Great Year for ASB Debate and Public Speaking

A Great Year for ASB Debate and Public Speaking

It has been a standout year for ASB’s Debate and Public Speaking team. From local tournaments to international stages, our students showed up, worked hard, and did an incredible job representing our school.

Growth and International Travel

This year, nearly 50 Middle and High School students participated in Oracy and Debate events!  Students traveled to the International School of Vienna, The American School of Madrid, and the American Overseas School of Rome, bringing their skills and school spirit to the international stage.

Public speaking coach Anca Niculescu shared her pride in the team:

I could not be more proud of what this group has accomplished this year. These students gave up their Saturdays, stayed late, and put in the kind of work that most people never see. Public speaking does not come naturally to everyone, and watching students who were once hesitant to raise their hand in class step onto an international stage and deliver with confidence has been incredibly rewarding for me and the students.

Wrapping Up the Season at the German School

Last week, 13 students from 6th through 10th grade competed in our final friendly tournament of the year at the German School of Barcelona. Competing in debate, impromptu acting, and impromptu speaking, our students showed the exact kind of poise and preparation they’ve practiced all year.

Real Growth Beyond the Podium

What really made this year special was how much these students have grown. Many who were nervous to speak in front of a small group in September, finished the season stepping confidently up to the podium. They supported each other, took risks, and pushed themselves to improve.

Public speaking is one of the most useful skills a young person can build, and seeing our Lynx take on the challenge so eagerly has been fantastic to watch.

Congratulations to every student who took part this year. We are already looking forward to next season!
