In Loving Memory of José Calahorra
On September 8, our community lost José Calahorra, ASB's first head of maintenance, at nearly 98.
Generations of ASB staff, students and alumni knew him simply as "José." For 34 years, from the school's earliest days until he retired in 1992, he kept ASB running as its electrician, plumber, painter, mover and repairman. He also coordinated the school's 1978 move to our current campus in Esplugues.

At José's retirement from ASB in 1992
José and his wife, Julia, lived on the school grounds with their young son, José Manuel. Today José Manuel is ASB's Head of Facilities, and his family's ties to ASB now span three generations, including his daughter Jessica who graduated from ASB in 2015.
A former principal once said José was "the history, the know-how, and the know-where" of our school.
